Non-Attorney Special Education Advocate & Nurse Consultant, I'm deeply committed to supporting children and families as they navigate the complexities of the public education system. My journey began in 2007 as a Registered Nurse, specializing in adult cardiac transplantation, case management, and complex critical care management. Over time, my role expanded to encompass multi-system training and coordination for medically fragile pediatric patients. Having knowledge in these diverse areas, provided me with a profound understanding of medical, behavioral, and mental health diagnoses, particularly as they intersect with education, and enabled me to articulate this information effectively.
In 2011, a call to assist school staff in caring for medically fragile students unexpectedly propelled me into the world of special education advocacy. Witnessing the challenges faced by families in advocating for their children's safety and educational rights ignited a passion within me to effect change. I transitioned my advocacy from healthcare to education, becoming a staunch advocate for the whole child.
As a mother to neurodivergent learners, Registered Nurse, and USMC Veteran, I bring a wealth of personal experience, training, and professional discipline to my work. I'm dedicated to ensuring that every child has access to quality education and the support they need to thrive academically, socially, and personally. Join me in making a way for every child to succeed at Zany Brains Special Education Right Now.
